Latinx, Hispanic & Refugee Food Security VISTA 22
 
 
 
The Wake County Food Security Program has hosted AmeriCorps VISTA members for over five years. Our members address hunger at the systems level, identifying barriers to access and building the capacity of organizations and individuals to make our county more food secure. Our program hosts seven full time members based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. Members are stationed at the NCSU Cooperative Extension, Wake County Center within the Food Security program. Our office is a hub of innovation and members take part in programs that build their leadership and community development skills while also being an agent of change in our community. VISTA members will receive a $300 rent subsidy or $300/month is gas/grocery cards.

Member Duties : The Latinx, Hispanic, and Refugee (LHR) Hunger VISTA will assist the food security program with better understanding of needs and barriers related to food access in Latinx, Hispanic, and refugee populations. The VISTA will develop guides on best practices, host outreach events, and compile information on myths and misconceptions of federal food resources. It is intended for this position to increase trust between partner organizations and communities to increase utilization of services and build equitable models of practice.
