2022-23 Resource Development- Menikanaehkem

Menikanaehkem is a grassroots community organization based on the Menominee Reservation in NE Wisconsin working to revitalize our communities. The poverty rate for Menominee falls at over 25 percent below the federal poverty level. Menikanaehkem’s mission is to rebuild our communities by relying on our traditional organizing roots and striving for Community Wellness. The overall goal of this project is the completion of a Community Dreams Assessment that will allow for appropriate resource development. The VISTA will survey the Menominee Community on an off reservation to identify and document their hopes, dreams, needs, and wants as individuals and the community. The results of the survey will guide Menikanaehkem’s direction going forward and the member will utilize the results of survey to begin researching grants and funding opportunities for the organization. Serve Wisconsin manages the initiative that engages AmeriCorps VISTA members to address poverty related to racial disparity throughout the state of Wisconsin by focusing on building the economic opportunity for the communities of Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, and Native American.
