2021-22 Operation Development-Madison Reading Project

The Madison Reading Project’s (MRP) mission is to deliver high-quality, literacy learning, reinforcement programs to underserved children, by engaging them in differentiated literacy activities designed to create not only a love of learning but build and reinforce age-appropriate skills needed to develop the young reader. 2/3rds of children from low-income households have no books at home and books in the home are the single biggest indicator of academic success. The member will assist the Madison Reading Project team in the development and completion of an organization wide operations manual to build the capacity of this organization. Serve Wisconsin manages the initiative that engages AmeriCorps VISTA members to address poverty related to racial disparity throughout the state of Wisconsin by focusing on building the economic opportunity for the communities of Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, and Native American.
