MI Coalition Against Homelessness - CHS/Detroit (HT)

Community & Home Supports is seeking two Full-time AmeriCorps Members to serve as Housing and Outreach Specialists from October 2nd, 2023 through September 27th, 2024. CHS’s mission is to assist homeless and chronically homeless individuals and families through assessment, navigation, and housing case management. Hosting an AmeriCorps member will allow CHS to expand its organizational capacity and optimize processes to provide the highest quality of services to clients with the goal of ending homelessness in Southeast Michigan. MCAH's AmeriCorps members join a corps of 23 members serving with housing and homeless service providers across the state in an effort to provide direct, supportive services to individuals experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. Members will receive training from the program through orientation, mid-year, and end-year training as well as on-going webinars/trainings focused on professional development and networking. Sites will provide position-specific training, including training and licensing in the Michigan Statewide Homeless Management Information System. Service benefits include a $19,000 living stipend (pre-tax, distributed bi-weekly) and a $6,895 Segal Education Award. Questions about the position can be directed to the site supervisor Matthew Tommelein at MT1@chsinc.org and program director Eric Krogsrud at ekrogsrud@mihomeless.org.

Member Duties : Housing Search and Information Specialist: The AmeriCorps member will increase the number of clients that we can move into housing at any one time while decreasing the length of time that we engage with clients before successfully moving them into housing. This will dually improve the quality of service for current clients and increase our capacity to serve more clients, fulfilling our goal to provide an increased level of quality services to larger volumes of clients. Outreach Specialist: The Outreach Specialist will expand the capacity of our outreach team by assisting households with connecting to mainstream services/benefits and obtain vital documents needed to access housing resources through local service providers. They will also increase the number of households exiting to permanent housing destination by collaborating and coordinating with the Housing Search and Information Specialist to provide critical housing leads.
