Eco3.22 Northern Bedrock Historic Corps Preservation VISTA

Northern Bedrock's mission is to develop enduring workforce and life skills through service learning in historic preservation and community stewardship. The VISTA will increase organizational capacity to provide equitable access historic preservation training and education by developing engaging, community-focused programming. Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps was developed to address two converging needs: 1) an aging stock of historic structures and landscapes in need of maintenance and repair, and, 2) create a pathways for young adults into the preservation trades workforce. Northern Bedrock utilizes a corps model to address these two converging needs through a historic preservation AmeriCorps program. The VISTA will collaboratively develop new programming models that focus on promoting community-focused heritage stewardship projects and providing equitable access to historic preservation and restoration resources. Community focused historic preservation programming can alleviate the costs of homeownership, stimulate local economies, and empower communities by promoting the visibility of unique cultural identities. VISTA member will be part of the Ecolibrium3 AmeriCorps VISTA cohort serving in northeastern Minnesota. Although each member is serving in a unique position, all cohort members will participate in VISTA specific activities such as regular cohort meetings, collaborative projects, professional development opportunities, and trainings. Additionally, cohort members will jointly complete one community service project of their cooperative design.
