Eco3.22 Healthy Northland Health Equity VISTA

Healthy Northland, a collaborative effort across seven counties in NE MN, seeks to improve the quality of life and health of all people in NE MN. Supported by the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) through the Minnesota Department of Healthy, Healthy Northland aims to address health inequities and promote well-being through policy, system, and environmental change. Our VISTA member will work closely with public health staff at local, regional, and state levels to learn about health equity and well-being research, resources, and best practices with a focus on the impact of poverty. Then the VISTA member will apply this knowledge to support local efforts addressing health inequities and promoting well-being across the Healthy Northland region. The VISTA member will support health equity and well-being efforts at all levels of public health (local, regional, and state) and add capacity to locally driven efforts across the region. The VISTA member will engage with local communities to ensure that all people in NE MN have what they need to be healthy. While based at the Carlton-Cook-Lake-St. Louis County Community Health Board (CCLS CHB) in Duluth, the VISTA member will have the unique opportunity to work across several public health programs and establish connections across region and state. The work is expected to be varied and dynamic to meet the needs of local communities. Through this role the VISTA member will refine their skills while acquire new tools to help build thriving communities. VISTA member will be part of the Ecolibrium3 AmeriCorps VISTA cohort serving in northeastern Minnesota. Although each member is serving in a unique position, all cohort members will participate in VISTA specific activities such as regular cohort meetings, collaborative projects, professional development opportunities, and trainings. Additionally, cohort members will jointly complete one community service project of their cooperative design.
