2021-2022 TEACH Outreach and Fundraising VISTA (IAFCC)

Tutoring English to Advance Change (TEACH) empowers limited English-speaking immigrants in low-income communities and in low-wage jobs with little or no health insurance through building language and cultural proficiency. TEACH provides health literacy education. TEACH’s mission is to empower limited English-speaking immigrants through building language and cultural proficiency necessary to being active in the larger community, securing gainful employment, and achieving their goals, all toward improving quality of life and fulfilling the American Dream. TEACH participants primarily reside in lower income communities and are employed in low-wage jobs, frequently more than one, with little or no health insurance. During the COVID-19 pandemic, TEACH developed expertise in virtual learning. The Community Outreach and Program Coordinator VISTA will build TEACH’s capacity to a) expand the reach and depth of its health literacy, domestic violence, special needs and core program b) establish a community presence through community outreach, public education and c) strengthen its sustainability through resource development.
