Home Repair and Weatherization Asst -COVER/VHCB
 
 
 
Help build more resilient communities and preserve homes in the Upper Valley for low income households. Serving alongside staff, volunteers, and homeowners, the Home Repair and Weatherization Assistant will gain valuable experience in the field addressing urgent home repair issues like fixing leaky roofs, modifying homes to make them more accessible, and weatherizing homes. In addition to serving in the field, the assistant will support efforts of recruiting and coordinating volunteers to strengthen our connections with homeowners throughout COVER’s home repair process. COVER’s mission is to foster hope and build community in the Upper Valley. The goal of the position is to help build more resilient communities through the process of volunteer-assisted home repair. The Home Repair and Weatherization Assistant will need to serve BOTH outside (60%) and inside (40%) the summer and inside in the winter. Appropriate training and supervision are provided. This position is: Full Time: Requires 1,720 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $26,000 (pre-tax), a monthly housing allowance of $300, and an education award of $6,895 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : • Be interested and enthusiastic about learning carpentry, weatherization and other aspects of the building trades • Be interested and enthusiastic about engaging volunteers and homeowners with sensitivity to issues of culture, class, and gender • Assist Crew Leaders at construction sites – repairing homes, building accessibility ramps, repairing roofs and floors • Assist with weatherizing homes to save energy, keep homeowners warm and reduce carbon emissions • Prepare materials and tools for jobsites, including ordering and picking up materials • Lead volunteers to complete home repair & weatherization • Organize workshop and inventory materials • Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps • Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives. • Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.
