Experience UGA VISTA 2023

This AmeriCorps VISTA, part of a network of VISTAs at the University of Georgia (UGA), builds capacity for the Experience UGA Program in Athens, GA. Experience UGA was established in 2012 and connects all Pre-K to 12th grade students in the Athens-Clarke County School District (CCSD) to the myriad educational resources available at UGA. Experience UGA mobilizes student Ambassadors and volunteers from the UGA community (students, faculty, and staff) to lead over 100 field trips per year, including through virtual content, serving 13,000 Pre-K-12 grade students at CCSD, a high-poverty school district. Our goal is to reach 100% of CCSD students with an annual field trip to campus, highlighting different learning opportunities available to them both in the future and in the present, connecting what they experience on their trips to the learning standards being taught in their classrooms. The AmeriCorps VISTA in this position is supported by the Experience UGA Program Coordinator and the Assistant Director for Community Partnerships at the Office of Service-Learning at UGA. VISTA responsibilities include supporting the college student Ambassadors (core volunteers) through training, meetings, and support; recruiting and training new volunteers; maintaining/improving relationships with teachers and administrators across CCSD and with other community stakeholders and partners; developing systems for tracking volunteer and participant engagement and assessing their experiences; implementing trainings and fundraising events; update and maintain Experience UGA virtual field trip website; maintaining Experience UGA’s social media; and grant writing.
