Concrete Jungle Communications and Program Expansion VISTA

Concrete Jungle transforms overlooked and underutilized fruit trees and land into a healthy food source for communities in need. We started as a volunteer organization in 2009, creating fun, innovative ways to solve issues of food waste and food insecurity. Since then, we have grown into a 501(c) with 4 full time staff, 7 part time contractors, and thousands of dedicated volunteers. Each year we increase our harvest by 50-200%. We believe we have been successful because of our very engaged and enthusiastic volunteers. Since our founding in 2009, we have donated 193,461 pounds of produce (773,846 servings) to hunger relief organizations in Georgia. We have done this through our various programs and activities: educating and engaging volunteers to identify and harvest fruit trees around Atlanta, going on Adventure Picks, cultivating vegetables on our urban farm, providing produce education to clients, mapping fruit trees, expanding our programming to a branch in Athens, GA, and more.

Member Duties : The VISTA will primarily support Concrete Jungle by 1) providing direction to our communications efforts, and 2) providing programmatic support for our produce delivery and Produce Buyers Club programs. We are proud of the work we are able to achieve every year through our programs. We believe we could achieve much more with a team member dedicated to helping us share our impacts, community stories, and volunteer opportunities in a more strategic way. We intend to build on our COVID-19 grocery delivery program’s proven effectiveness at improving food security and health outcomes by continuing to deliver produce directly to food insecure families. We are also continuing to grow our Produce Buyers Club by identifying farmers with imperfect produce and organizations that need this produce. Ultimately, the VISTA will spearhead organization-wide communication activities, pilot the second iteration of our grocery delivery program, and formalize processes around our Produce Buyers Club.
