Sea Mar Community Health Center is a community-based organization committed to providing quality, comprehensive health, human, housing, educational and cultural services to diverse communities, specializing in service to Latino communities. Sea Mar is an innovative, national leader in health and social services by delivering high quality, integrated care for underserved communities Year 3 of this project will aim to end the cycle of poverty by continuing programs developed by previous VISTA’s at Sea Mar CHC. This program aims to offer patients health education initiatives and preventive health measures to maintain and develop healthy lifestyles. The year 3 VISTA will maintain, enhance and evaluate programs aimed to improve and increase food accessibility in the Latino Community. The VISTA will focus on developing a plan for program sustainability, build a network of volunteers, secure grant funding, and be responsible for managing data collected from various initiatives. The VISTA member will also be in charge of the Health Education Facebook page to disseminate and create materials alongside the Program Manager. The Opportunity Council VISTA Cohort in Bellingham includes monthly team meetings, Professional Development opportunities, fun team-building events, and 4 annual Days of Service.

Member Duties : Our VISTA will work with the Health Education Program Manager and team to continue aiding patients who are experiencing food insecurity and living with chronic conditions through Food FARMacia (a free fresh produce program created by our Year 1 VISTA) program development, curriculum development, communications (running social media platforms and developing infographics), volunteer recruitment, and capacity building. The VISTA will be a part of planning, designing, and implementing the community gardens project in Whatcom County and focus on creating a plan to sustain the garden project. The VISTA will also participate in health education trainings and receive training in software used by the clinic. The VISTA will have opportunities to collaborate with other departments of interest, community partners, and individuals interested in supporting our project.
