Opportunity Council - FFB - Community Engagement VISTA

The Foothills Food Bank’s (FFB) mission is to distribute quality, nutritious food to community members in need, and to deliver services with respect and dignity. The FFB has provided free supplementary groceries to families in East Whatcom County since 1986. Our Tuesday morning distribution serves an average of 200 families each week. We also deliver groceries to home bound adults and families within the community who are unable to access our weekly distributions. East Whatcom County qualifies as a rural food desert based on the United States Department of Agriculture’s definition. Our community has become increasingly food insecure since COVID-19 and more and more families within the community need our assistance. We will be expanding our programs to include both a second weekly distribution time in the evenings and Saturday distributions in the future. The Opportunity Council VISTA Cohort in Bellingham includes monthly team meetings, Professional Development opportunities, fun team-building events, and 4 annual Days of Service.
