CommunityGrows Communication & Development Coordinator VISTA

CommunityGrows is a relationship-based organization, taking root in the communities we serve and forming partnerships with other neighborhood organizations to provide hands-on, outdoor learning opportunities for youth. Our curriculum focuses on environmental and garden education, cooking classes, leadership development, and a paid job readiness program serving BIPOC and low income youth in San Francisco. Since the 1970s (then Hayes Valley Neighborhood Parks Group), our work has been grounded in social justice, created in response to the disproportionate lack of outdoor spaces, garden education, and teen jobs in low income and communities of color. Our programs directly cultivate healthy, connected, and engaged communities by focusing on our youth and providing them with the tools they need to lead healthy and socially engaged lives. Our mission is to cultivate healthy youth through growing gardens in low-income, diverse communities. Our vision is that all youth are able to benefit from the joy and healing of nature-based outdoor education, and develop the tools, confidence, and resources to navigate and challenge structural injustices. Resources developed during the VISTA term will support our programs and staff, who in turn provide programming to BIPOC and low-income youth in San Francisco’s Western Addition, Bayview-Hunters Point, and Outer Mission/Excelsior neighborhoods. The Communication and Development Coordinator will create and hone strategies that: inspire and engage donors through consistent communication and branding strategies; share our impact with community members, partners, and funders; increase our social media presence; and further develop our fundraising campaigns and grant processes. By the end of this year, our goal is to have resource development templates, clear communications strategies, and other such resources to hand-off to staff and volunteers for the long-term sustainability of the project.
