CommunityGrows- Community Engagement Coordinator VISTA

CommunityGrows is a relationship-based organization, taking root in the communities we serve and forming partnerships with other neighborhood organizations to provide hands-on, outdoor learning opportunities for youth. Our curriculum focuses on environmental and garden education, cooking classes, leadership development, and a paid job readiness program serving BIPOC and low income youth in San Francisco. Since the 1970s (then Hayes Valley Neighborhood Parks Group), our work has been grounded in social justice, created in response to the disproportionate lack of outdoor spaces, garden education, and teen jobs in low income and communities of color. Our programs directly cultivate healthy, connected, and engaged communities by focusing on our youth and providing them with the tools they need to lead healthy and socially engaged lives. Our mission is to cultivate healthy youth through growing gardens in low-income, diverse communities. Our vision is that all youth are able to benefit from the joy and healing of nature-based outdoor education, and develop the tools, confidence, and resources to navigate and challenge structural injustices. CommunityGrows provides programming free of charge for BIPOC and low-income youth in San Francisco’s Western Addition, Bayview-Hunters Point, and Outer Mission/Excelsior neighborhoods. The Community Engagement Coordinator will strengthen engagement and commitment in five primary communities: our volunteers, our participants and their families, our funders and supporters, our Advisory Board, and our partners. Systems and strategies developed by our VISTA will allow for greater and more accessible participation from our five primary communities, which in turn supports our mission and programming.
