WORKFORCE ENGAGEMENT VISTA

As a Workforce Engagement VISTA for City of Las Vegas (CLV) Ward 5 Works- Workforce Development Initiative, you will focus on the development of community-based networks, programs and outreach strategies that lead to new and improved solutions to the unemployment and underemployment issues facing targeted zip codes in the City. The unemployment rate in Nevada is below 4.6%, the lowest rate since August 2007. While the City is experiencing remarkable growth in the area, portions of Ward 5 remain virtually the same. Within certain zip codes, unemployment tops 15%, nearly 400% higher than the State rate. The goal of the Ward 5 Works is to increase economic mobility for low-income and/or less educated workers through employer partnerships and career pathways. Residents should have access to good jobs that pay family-sustaining wages, including healthcare & retirement benefits and offer opportunities for advancement. As a VISTA, your service will start on August 30, 2021 and end on August 29, 2022. During this time, you will be a full-time member (35-40 hours a week) and report to work at Las Vegas City Hall. You will also receive the logistic and supervisory support from CLV staff and will be eligible to participate in all CLV professional development and organizational health trainings. As a VISTA, you are entitled to 10 personal days and 10 medical days. For VISTA members serving in Clark County, you will earn a living allowance of $513.94 per pay period (total of $13,362 for the year). In addition, for successfully completing your year of service, you have the option to be eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or the VISTA end-of-service cash stipend. The value of the education award is $6,345.00. The value of the end-of-year cash stipend is approximately $1,800.00.
