The City of Phoenix Housing Departments mission is to provide quality affordable housing and a pathway to self-sufficiency. The proposed VISTA project aligns with the economic opportunity focus area. The VISTA project will seek to develop systems to expand organizational capacity by creating subcommittee groups to maximize partnerships within the Housing Coalition of Service Providers and focus on economic opportunity interventions while developing data collection tools to capture progress to benefit the residents of the Edison-Eastlake Community. The Summer VISTA project will seek to work in areas of Summer Learning Loss, Youth Tutoring Program, and access to food via a Summer Lunch program and Mobile Pantry distributions. The primary focus on the Summer Associate is to continue the mission of providing resources and programs to ensure residents of the Edison-Eastlake Community have access to educational programs, youth activities, and access to food.

Member Duties : The Summer Associate will work directly with youth and families with in promoting and creating a summer program to address Summer learning loss. In addition, the Summer Associate will work with Grand Canyon University student tutors in assisting children attending Summer school. The Summer Associate will have the ability to work with the community and its residents in the Summer lunch program and Mobile Pantry distribution events which focus on providing access to nutritious foods to those individuals who need access to food. The Summer Associate will engage the community and its residents by promoting programs for City of Phoenix Housing Department. Engagement includes distributing fliers, door knocking, and speaking directly to residents. The Summer Associate will collect data for pre/post surveys which will be used for tracking the success of the programs.
