Community Resource Bridge VISTA

This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty. This VISTA position will serve physically at the Catholic Charities of Owensboro (CC Owensboro). CC Owensboro is the social justice arm of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Owensboro. The Diocese is a 32-county area of western Kentucky which is both rural and urban and lies in the land of BBQ, bluegrass, and bourbon. Most of our communities have poverty rates above the national average, but are in-line with the state average for poverty in Kentucky. Ten of the 32-counties in our area have a foreign born population which represents 2% or more of the overall population. There is a refugee resettlement organization which resettles 25% of the refugees in Kentucky within our diocese. We are a small organization, so our work must collaborate with other like-minded organizations to affect change. CC Owensboro endeavors to spark parishes to walk with the marginalized in social justice and truly be the change they want to see in the world. We create programming that lifts those in the margins into the mainstream. We provide service to people in need, advocate for justice in our community and Commonwealth, and call on our churches and other people of good will to do the same.
