Community Awareness and Engagement VISTA

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark (CCAN) is a large social service agency that serves over 55, 000 individuals annually across 86 program in a four county area. Catholic Charities participates in the Church’s social mission by recognizing the inherent dignity and worth of all people and responding with quality services and compassion to the corporeal needs of the poor and marginalized. Through these activities Catholic Charities strives to assist individuals in need, strengthen the family unit, enrich the lives of community members and make families and neighborhoods stronger. The ultimate goal of the Office of Volunteer Services is to build a long-term cohort of volunteers invested in the clients and services of Catholic Charities which would expand our community reach, enabling us to serve more people. The VISTA will implement a robust recruitment plan and strengthen the agency’s presence in the community through social media and public speaking engagements.. The VISTA will build capacity by creating strong community ties and enhancing community awareness for CCAN and its client base- low-income individuals and families, seniors, people with mental and physical disabilities. Through these activities the VISTA will build a strong volunteer system and partnership network that helps CCAN better alleviate poverty within the community. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.
