Be Mighty Little Rock VISTA

The Central Arkansas Library System provides resources and services to help residents reach their full potential, and to inspire discovery, learning, and cultural expression. The mission of the CALS Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit, is to provide support for educational and cultural programming for the patrons, communities, and neighborhoods being served by the Central Arkansas Library System and its branches. CALS is the state’s largest library system, with a service area of 337,000 people, touching about 11% of the population of Arkansas. Our fourteen library branches are located in Little Rock, Jacksonville, Maumelle, Sherwood, Wrightsville, and Perryville. CALS is recognized as a leading community institution improving literacy, the exchange of ideas, workforce development, and social engagement. Be Mighty Little Rock is a city-wide antihunger campaign that connects kids and teens to free afterschool, weekend, and summer meals. CALS staffs the campaign director and 11 of our branches serve as USDA meal sites. Since March of 2020, CALS has served more than 186,000 free meals to children and their families. CALS offers a variety of nutrition-related programs including onsite gardens, grab-and-go activities, and virtual nutrition education.
