TSC VISTA 2021: Massachusetts Avenue Project

The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of low-income communities. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in New York State and across the country. During their term of service members, will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA Leaders.

Member Duties : Massachusetts Avenue Project’s (MAP) mission is to nurture the growth of a diverse and equitable community food system, to promote local economic opportunities, access to affordable nutritious food, and social change education. Through the Growing Green Program, a year-round urban agriculture program MAP trains disadvantaged youth, ages 14-20, in sustainable urban agriculture, food systems, nutrition, micro-enterprise development and community leadership. The Farmhouse Activity Coordinator VISTA will continue work from previous VISTA and work closely with MAP staff to advance and support Farmhouse use through developing partnerships, evaluating protocols for all Farmhouse activities and events, coordinating volunteers, and raising community awareness about new food-based education and training initiatives.
