Refugee Resettlement Community Engagement VISTA

Develop and implement a sustainable refugee resettlement community sponsorship program to match community groups with arriving refugee families. The community sponsorship program will enhance refugee integration, contributing to poverty alleviation and building the capacity of the refugee resettlement program. With this additional capacity, the agency is able to welcome more refugees by training and managing community sponsorship groups to complement services offered by the agency. To achieve this goal, the VISTA will create a community sponsorship manual, conduct outreach to faith and community groups, train and manage volunteers, and coordinate with resettlement program staff to match refugee families with community sponsorship groups. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.

Member Duties : Develop an agency-specific community sponsorship manual outlining the community sponsorship program recruitment process, training program and materials, commitment, guidelines, volunteer management procedures, and coordination procedures with resettlement program and staff. Conduct targeted community outreach at least once a week with faith-based and community groups across the Diocese of Jefferson City interested in sponsoring refugee families resulting in the recruitment of at least six committed community sponsorship groups. Train and provide ongoing management of volunteers in at least six committed community sponsorship groups following the training and management procedures outlined in the community sponsorship manual. Coordinate with resettlement program and appropriate staff including Case Managers, to successfully match at least six community sponsorship groups with refugee families and coordinate communication between the resettlement staff and community sponsorship groups.
