OHA Marion County Emergency Management VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training, and professional development throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://healthoregon.org/vista. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. Marion County Emergency Management proactively plans, reviews, and maintains a comprehensive emergency management program using the whole community approach, but needs to improve our efforts to ensure vulnerable populations enjoy equal benefit. Our goal is to reduce the long-term economic impact of disasters on low income and vulnerable community members. Without adequate inclusion of these community members and the organizations that amplify their voices, they remain at special risk. The consequences include serious economic impact, preventable disease and illness due to direct injury, secondary health impacts (such as exacerbated underlying health conditions or behavioral health issues), lack of access to care, and serious social justice concerns. This position is located in Salem, the capital of Oregon. Centrally located in the Willamette Valley, this area is rich with culture and has easy access to hiking and other outdoor adventures in every direction. Within an hour you can reach mountains, beaches, or big city attractions of Portland. With innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Salem is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health. The OHA VISTA Partnership Project is committed to building a diverse workforce. We encourage candidates from communities of color, disability, LGBTQIA, and linguistically diverse populations to consider application to our positions.
