OHA Lincoln County Health Equity & Preparedness VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. Lincoln County Public Health is a local governmental public health agency based in Newport, Oregon with a mission to collaborate with the community to provide leadership in building healthy communities. Services include nutritional assistance, communicable disease, and emergency preparedness. Lincoln County is located on the central Oregon Coast between the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Coast Range mountains to the east. The majority of the county’s residents live in communities along the coastline, with approximately 58% of residents living in the coastal communities and 43% living in unincorporated communities, farms and rural residences throughout the county. Lincoln County offers a beautiful landscape, mild climate, and high air and water quality, all which make it easy to call this area home. The position will be based in Newport with easy access to beaches, a local farmer’s market (with SNAP matching) and scenic hiking. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Newport is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health. Member Duties : As our AmeriCorps member, you will join a community of public health professionals dedicated to alleviating the effects of poverty by implementing sustainable projects across Lincoln County. You will support the creation of a Medical Reserve Corps (a collection of medical and non-medical volunteers who assist with public health initiatives) in Lincoln County, including recruiting and training volunteers and facilitating meetings. You will work with emergency preparedness staff to improve resiliency for low-income communities experiencing health and social inequities. You will continue efforts to implement health equity procedures and planning across departments in Lincoln County Public health through education. This will be accomplished through the development and promotion of health education materials for the medically under-served, the Latinx community, and those with intellectual & developmental disabilities.
