OHA Tillamook County Health Promotion & Engagement VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. Tillamook County Community Health Centers, provides a range of health care and public health services, including primary care, behavioral health and dental services, WIC, home visits, and environmental health services. Our mission is to promote and protect the health of all people in Tillamook County. Tillamook County is on the northern Oregon Coast, spanning from Pacific City up to Manzanita. It is a close-knit and fairly-rural community located two hours east of Portland. In addition to the breathtaking views the Oregon coast provides, there is abundant access to outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, crabbing, camping, and exploring the many beaches. You are an ideal candidate if you are: interested in community health and communications and value reaching diverse communities; enjoy building collaborative partnerships and working in a team environment; are open to being a part of a range of projects and learning new skills; and preferably has experience or interest in learning about website and social media management and communications. Member Duties : As our AmeriCorps member, you will expand and enhance communication pathways across community member and partner organizations to improve community health. You will develop and enhance marketing communications strategies to promote healthy lifestyle change and organize community engagement events with low-income community members. You will provide project-based support to identify and engage at-risk, low-income residents and increase access to resources to reduce risk of type 2 diabetes. You will support efforts to transition people out of poverty by promoting the TCCHC Harm Reduction Needle Exchange program and improve community health among low-income residents by empowering community members and local organizations with the information and tools needed to create and sustain healthy and tobacco-free environments.
