OHA Oregon ECHO Network VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://healthoregon.org/vista. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. The Oregon Rural Practice-based Research Network [ORPRN] was established in 2002 at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. Many of ORPRN’s projects are focused on expanding access to quality healthcare for rural populations. Project ECHO is a tele-mentoring model that unites clinicians in rural areas with specialists in a variety of topics with the aim of alleviating barriers and providing greater access to care for underserved populations. PINPOINT, a pain and opioid management project, works to reduce inappropriate opioid prescribing, improve patient outcomes, and promote more informed prescribing practices. Portland is known for the legendary Powell’s Bookstore, its culinary scene, and microbrew industry. The Pacific Ocean, Mt. Hood and acres of national forest are within a two hours’ drive, and within city limits you can find 7,500 acres of park land, including Forest Park, the largest urban wilderness within any US city. Portland has excellent public transportation and is recognized nationally as a bicycle friendly city. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Portland is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health. The OHA VISTA Partnership Project is committed to building a diverse workforce. We encourage candidates from communities of color, disability, LGBTQIA, and linguistically diverse populations to consider application to our positions.

Member Duties : Project Extension of Community Healthcare Outcomes [ECHO] is a tele-mentoring model that increases access to care for underserved populations by building the capacity of clinicians. The AmeriCorps member will assess the extent to which ECHO programs promote health equity, research best-practices, and recommend improvements. The member will also work on conducting mid-program evaluations for various ECHO programs using a tool developed by the previous AmeriCorps member, which will include new questions about health equity. Additionally, the member will work with the PINPOINT pain and opioid management program to create and disseminate a suicide prevention toolkit to primary care clinics. This will involve sharing relevant findings and resources across the Oregon ECHO Network and PINPOINT teams, researching evidence-based practices to suicide prevention, and thinking creatively to design a product that will be utilized effectively in clinics.
