OHA Crook County COVID-19 Resilience and Recovery VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. Crook County Health Department [CCHD] is located in Prineville, Oregon, a rural frontier community an hour from the nearest large city. CCHD provides clinical services that include reproductive health and communicable disease response; public health preparedness; Women, Infants, and Children [WIC]; Medicaid application assistance; substance use and addictions prevention; mental health promotion and suicide prevention; and chronic disease prevention and self-management. Our services are available to all members of the community, with specific focus on outreach and service to low-income community members. Our department takes pride in being welcoming, trauma-informed and non-judgmental of individual’s life circumstances, to provide the highest level of care for all. Prineville is a great place to live and features a close-knit community. Outdoor recreational opportunities are abound as we are surrounded by hiking and biking trail systems; world-renowned rock climbing; and abundant public lands with access to lakes, mountains, forests and grasslands. Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will join a dynamic team of local public health professionals who care deeply about the health and wellbeing of the community.The member will: 1) Assess, plan and support the implementation of programs and policies to increase all-hazards preparedness and recovery capacity among low-income community members in Crook County; 2) Review, develop, and implement systems to improve financial and mental health literacy to promote wellbeing and overall health; and 3) Build resilience and improve health outcomes by supporting job skills and work readiness for low-income youth and young adults in Crook County. The member will also have many opportunities to engage in public health exploration and professional development opportunities.
