COF NSCOA Development Coordinator VISTA

The AmeriCorps VISTA program in Fairbanks is housed through the City of Fairbanks (CoF). This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, for 1 year. VISTAs receive a monthly living allowance of $1,333 which is paid bi-weekly. At the end of service, they also have the choice between an education award of $6,345 or a cash stipend of $1,800. The VISTA will work directly at NSCOA. The North Star Council on Aging (NSCOA) strives to meet the needs of older adults by providing services which enhance and promote quality of life, self-determination, independent living, and dignity. The NSCOA serves seniors 60 years old and older in Fairbanks and surrounding communities. Some of the NSCOA services include: operating the Fairbanks Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, the Homemaker Program, Helping Hands Home Modifications, Supplemental Food Program, Heating Assistance Program, and housing the Aging & Disability Resource Center. The NSCOA is expanding the capacity of all these programs and is developing new programs to serve the local senior population, which is more than doubling over the next decade. Alaska has the highest per capita number of people from the Baby Boomer generation than anywhere else in the United States, due to an Alaskan employment boom in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The Development Coordinator VISTA will help the NSCOA explore expansion and development opportunities.
