Eco3.22 Oldenburg Arts & Cultural Community Liaison

Oldenburg Arts and Cultural Community (OACC) launched in 2018 following lengthy discussions with the region’s artists, culture bearers, food producers and conservationists. OACC's mission is to encourage our region’s vitality through what we call ‘locally inspired, arts activated’ community development. We do this underneath our umbrella program called Carlton Area Creatives Collaborative from which we deploy two of our greatest but unrecognized and under-valued assets: our region's extraordinary geography, rich cultural history, and the developing sense of trust among Native and Non-Native creatives. Our organizational goal is to activate community memory, story and imagination to 1) grow respect for our shared civic life and trust in each other; 2) work together to define our problems, share stories and knowledge of our assets, and inspire promising solutions; and 3) connect our new knowledge with other communities that share similar goals. By bringing together Native and non-Native individual creatives and organizations to strengthen our economy and bridge community cleavages we 1) provide tools for improving economic and creative dimensions of creatives’ lives; and 2) embed creative placemaking into Reservation and County planning functions. OACC’s goal for the VISTA position is to leverage capacity building for further developing the Collaborative’s impact in the area. Over 150 individual creatives across the Fond du Lac Region and Carlton County have been involved in creative community development pilot projects. Native and Non-Native creatives have been informally working together on organizing the Collaborative (and its programs), using this ‘locally inspired arts activated’ community development – the intended goal of which is to build sustainable, inclusive, equitable and healthy prosperity for all our residents.
