VYT-Northeast Kingdom Collaborative

PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: www.vermontyouthamericorps.org SITE: Our mission is to improve the quality of life for all residents of the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) through coordinated economic and community development. Our programs seek to break the cycle of poverty through increasing access to resources, leadership development, connections and career opportunities in NEK communities. The NEK is the most rural and economically distressed region in Vermont. The VISTA increases our organization's capacity for outreach and promotion of services and resources that help families and individuals move out of poverty. VISTA member's service will focus on NEK Strong which connects individuals, families, and communities to the resources they need to thrive. COVID-19: The pandemic highlighted the existing inequities within our NEK communities: underfunded schools, lack of affordable housing, and lack of broadband access and other infrastructure. Resources are available; however, many aren’t aware of them, don’t believe they are eligible, or struggle to navigate the process. The VISTA adds capacity by implementing strategies in the NEK Recovery Action Plan; expanding broadband access, affordable housing options, equitable education services, business support and community vitality initiatives in our region. Location: Craftsbury, VT
