Austin Nature & Science Center Teen Programs VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA project works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA project work in such diverse fields as education, health, transportation, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Develop framework for progressive teen program that focuses on developing job readiness skills for participants as young as 12 years of age, ensuring that the program principles align with the City of Austin’s PRIDE values and prepares participants to work for the Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) and the City of Austin. Investigate funding and partnership opportunities with other City of Austin Departments, non-profit and community organizations, universities and investigate the feasibility of corporate sponsorship. Develop a marketing and recruitment plan to target teens in underserved and gentrifying communities. A) Initiate conversation with Austin Independent School District about potentially linking program participation to academic objectives and incentivizing participation. B)Develop and marketing and recruitment calendar that outlines dates and deadlines for design and development of marketing collateral, press releases, and partner check-ins.
