Impact Pendleton Mentor Coordinator VISTA

We believe a caring adult mentor can help each child reach their full potential. The Impact Mentoring Program launched in October 2018 and is a 1-on-1 mentoring program for students 3rd grade and up. Pendleton is a town of 17,000 people in Eastern Oregon, known for lots of sunshine and the Roundup rodeo. It is proximal to many outdoor activities in the Blue Mountains, such as hiking, camping, and skiing. We are seeking conscientious, driven individuals who are interested in strategic planning, creativity, and helping build the capacity of a new start-up program. Year 3 VISTAs will continue the important capacity-building work by testing processes and materials developed in year one and continue to build the capacity of the Impact Mentoring Program by engaging new stakeholders. VISTAS will have an opportunity to expand the organization’s capacity by engaging with donors, pursuing grant funding, and participating in strategic evaluation to improve the program. These capacity-building efforts will provide more Pendleton children with a life-changing encounter with a caring mentor. VISTAs should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. VISTAs should be organized, attentive to details, and self-starters who are able to prioritize tasks, set personal goals, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced startup environment. VISTAs should be comfortable with fundraising, public speaking, and community organizing. The role includes some physical demands that include prolonged standing and sitting, and lifting up to 35 lbs. Individuals should have superior interpersonal skills with both adults and children, and be comfortable meeting people from a variety of backgrounds. VISTAs will be given the opportunity to think strategically and create long-lasting resources and systems that will be utilized in the years to come. We will offer VISTAs an opportunity for ongoing professional development and a fun, start-up environment.
