VISTA Outreach Coordinator

Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana was established with the vision to empower people, to respond to the basic needs of the people of Southwest Louisiana. Catholic Charities of SWLA recognizes the sacredness of all humanity and acts on behalf of the members of the community whose voices may otherwise go unheard. As an experienced leader of social services in Southwest Louisiana, Catholic Charities is a respected advocate for the poor and a trusted service provider in the community. Catholic Charities has historically provided an expansive food bank with monthly food distributions and provides a variety of different types of financial assistance to aid families in regaining stability in times of crisis and hardship. In August and October 2020, Southwest Louisiana was hit by two major hurricanes and there is now a great need to increase a stable, local volunteer base to meet the many needs of feeding and rebuilding the community and helping families get back on their feet; work that undoubtedly will take several years. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.

Member Duties : As the VISTA Outreach Coordinator you will be responsible to evaluate volunteer management and the overall CRM system. You will be conducting interviews with volunteers and staff to better understand how to meet current and future needs in the community and develop ideas on how to better utilize skills and interests and match them with disaster related needs. You will be implementing a new CRM system using Salesforce, and educate staff and volunteers on how to best utilize it. You will also review our current and past community outreach practices and fundraising efforts, research best practices, and develop a strategy on how to improve community engagement and develop ideas for materials, partnerships, events, social media content etc. to meet the goals presented in the strategy.
