GSCM Baltimore City Community Troop Project

GSCM delivers on its mission through the provision of programs using experiential learning techniques in the national priority areas of STEM education/career aspirations, the outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship. The Community Troop Coordinator will help promote gender equity and provide access to girls who otherwise would not be exposed to high quality enrichment opportunities. This special troop formation initiative seeks to match girls from disadvantaged and underserved communities in Cherry Hill and Brooklyn, both in the southwest section of Baltimore City. This area also shares a border with the Brooklyn Park community in North Anne Arundel County, therefore synergy with the Anne Arundel County VISTA position will allow these VISTA members to collaborate. Through identified adult role models and leaders they will provide opportunities for fun with a purpose at troop meetings, field trips and program events, and inspire them to imagine and chart a new path for a bright successful future. These two communities present great challenges and opportunities as the needs assessment demonstrates.
