GSCM Anne Arundel County Community Troop Project

More than camping and cookies, the new Girl Scouts offers girls and young women leadership opportunities of a lifetime. Strong social networks of peers and adult mentors, are brought together and supported through the Anne Arundel County Community Troop Initiative. VISTA’s will have the benefit of the legacy and goodwill of Girl Scouts, and can instantly build rapport and make a difference in someone’s life – sometimes in just one interaction. This opportunity at Girl Scouts requires a person skilled in: strategy and tactics, internet searches, converting data into information, problem-solving, networking, and project management. For the Anne Arundel County position, fluency in written/spoken Spanish is preferred. This special troop formation initiative seeks to match girls from disadvantaged and underserved communities in the Brooklyn Park area of North County, and in the City of Annapolis, with adult role models and leaders who will provide opportunities for fun with a purpose at troop meetings, field trips and program events, and inspire them to imagine and chart a new path for a bright successful future. These two jurisdictions present great challenges and opportunities. In Annapolis, the State House of Delegates Building sits adjacent to the County’s largest Section 8 housing complex. In both areas of the county, a large Latino community resides – the preponderance from El Salvador. The VISTA member in this position will implement practices that are culturally competent and advance diversity, equity and inclusion in community troop development.
