21-22 Chicago HOPES for Kids Development Coordinator VISTA

The mission of Chicago HOPES for Kids is to provide shelter-based educational support for children living in Chicago’s homeless shelters. We provide a welcoming space at each shelter where students receive homework help, literacy, and enrichment services to succeed academically. Chicago HOPES for Kids currently has tutoring programs at 8 shelters in Chicago and provides services to over 100 children, 3-4 afternoon/evenings per week with over 150 volunteers participating each year. Chicago HOPES for Kids is seeking VISTA members who have an interest in helping children who are experiencing homelessness succeed in school while working to enhance the HOPES program and create a model for organizational sustainability and program expansion. The goal of our project is threefold: To expand the Chicago HOPES for Kids academic and enrichment program to additional shelters in Chicago; to strengthen and further develop the structure and components of our existing program, and to create a sustainable model for community outreach and diversify our volunteer opportunities. Candidates for this position will work to expand awareness and financial support for Chicago HOPES for Kids through marketing, special events, corporate relationships, and donations. The VISTA member will develop and expand communication channels such as social media, promotional photos, and videos, website development, graphic design, email marketing, events, and face-to-face meetings and presentations to accomplish this goal. Additionally, the VISTA member will build organizational capacity by developing and documenting communication and fundraising strategies, procedures, and relevant contact information to promote increased awareness and support for Chicago HOPES for Kids in the Chicago community and beyond.

Member Duties : The Vista member will work to create and execute individual fundraising campaigns including Giving Tuesday. This member will be responsible for collaboratively creating and executing HOPES digital communication strategy, ensuring a consistent and positive online presence. This member will execute a plan to collect photos and videos of the program. This member will develop marketing collateral. This VISTA member will update public relations materials. This member will create and distribute an annual report. This member will work collaboratively to develop key community and fundraising events. The Development and Communication Coordinator VISTA will seek auction items and sponsorships to support events. A key part of this role will be to assist with research and grant writing. This member will develop a template to distribute thank-you emails and letters to donors. In collaboration with the Development Manager this member, build corporate partnerships.
