MTCC AmeriCorps Leader - Dawsons Promise

Dawson Community College's diverse student body (from places like France, Canada, Costa Rica, Nigeria, inner cities, Missoula, Billings and rural Montana) are welcomed on to campus by people who look like them and sound like them. Our employees represent a diverse population that is not represented in the overall Dawson County census. Dawson Community College serves students with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities. DCC regularly creates individual educational plans for students through the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs office. DCC serves students that are members of the LGBTQ community. Allies on campus provide a safe space for students supporting them where they’re at. Our faculty and staff welcome our diverse student body and celebrate their diversity and serve them with compassion. We also serve first generation students and economically disenfranchised students. Of the FAFSA (financial aid) applications received for the 2019-2020 aid year, 63% of Dawson Community College students were Pell Eligible, i.e. very low income as defined by the Federal Pell Grant Program and assessed by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, Dawson Community College supports students who are homeless, unaccompanied, or have aged out of the foster care system through the Dawson Promise program. This program helps students graduate from DCC without student debt. Students in Dawson Promise would be mentored and coached by the AmeriCorps leader here on our campus.
