Eco3.21 Community Development Coordinator

Zeitgeist Center for Arts & Community builds inclusive, creative, sustainable social systems in people, institutions, and communities. That means taking down systems of oppression, piece by piece, in creative ways. In their place, Zeitgeist builds connections to more inclusive, sustainable, and creative systems that address the cultural, social, and economic determinants of health in long-lasting, cycle-breaking ways. To achieve those goals, the VISTA member will work with Zeitgeist’s Community Development Director to conduct community engagement and integrate arts and cultural strategies into community programs including Healthy Hillside (an effort to reduce health disparities and build community vision in the Hillside neighborhood), Places for People (a program that cultivates placemaking, neighborhood design, and equitable transportation to increase neighborhood vitality) with a focus on 6th Ave East Reimagined Project and active transportation events like Bus, Bike Walk , and the Duluth Story Project (a theatrical project to collect and present stories from Duluth’s under-represented communities about their experience of COVID-19 and racial injustice as a platform for healing, connection and social change); identify and develop news ways for our restaurant and movie theater to serve the community post pandemic; and support the internal development and training of the systems and evaluation of these strategies to sustain them into the future. VISTA member will be part of the Ecolibrium3 AmeriCorps VISTA cohort serving in northeastern Minnesota. Although each member is serving in a unique position, all cohort members will participate in VISTA specific activities such as regular cohort meetings, collaborative projects, professional development opportunities, and trainings. Additionally, cohort members will jointly complete one community service project of their cooperative design.
