Farm Fresh Hope’s Harvest Volunteer and Communications VISTA

One in four Rhode Islanders rely on the emergency food system to meet their basic needs, a sharp increase since the previous year. In 2020, Hope’s Harvest RI rescued over 265,000 lbs of fresh, nutrient dense fruits and vegetables from local farms and delivered it to over 10,000 individuals a month via our network of emergency food providers. In 2021-22, we expect that Hope’s Harvest RI will rescue and distribute even more produce to our neighbors in need, while also supporting a robust network of volunteers and farms that make this work possible. Hope’s Harvest RI is fiscally sponsored by Farm Fresh RI, a food hub with many different programs working together to build a stronger food system in Rhode Island. The Hope’s Harvest Volunteer, Communications, & Development VISTA will build valuable data management skills by refining/implementing systems to recruit and manage volunteers, community partners, and donors, while conducting digital/in-person outreach to a diverse cross-section of Rhode Islanders. The member will build connections to RI businesses, faith-based communities, student groups, and our dedicated community of volunteers composed of inspiring individuals committed to making a tangible difference for their neighbors in need. This position entails travel throughout RI, public speaking, and coordination of seasonal indoor/outdoor recruitment and volunteer acknowledgment events. This position requires an outgoing individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can comfortably navigate diverse environments and perspectives. Demonstrated capacity for logistical thinking and problem solving a must. Other desired aptitudes include: attention to detail; highly self-motivated; proficiency with MS Office, social media tools, database software, and/or email marketing tools; ability to prioritize tasks; event planning background; and the capacity to work outdoors in bad weather/inside in good weather as needed.
