Richfield STEM Elementary School- Relationship Manager VISTA

The VISTA member will focus on the critical strategies by partnering with building staff and families to support implementing a robust multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). This work will be done through an equity lens. It will be embedded in our current practices, such as our work with Innocent Classroom, Second Step, Morning Meeting, etc. . We identify the importance of seeing our students as individuals and supporting them as we get to know them deeper level. We recognize and remove barriers and partner with all stakeholders to ensure each student successfully and accesses their full potential. We have professional development materials around Conscious Discipline for adults and Second Step Curriculum for classroom learning to build our workaround. This implementation will require frequent checks of communication, support, and accountability to ensure fidelity of the work. Our responsibility is to foster resilience in our students and families as they navigate through the educational system and barriers they may encounter. The VISTA staff member will be using Second Step as a foundation to teach explicitly, model, and coach students and classroom communities to create a result of capacity building. Finally, we realize that this work cannot be done in isolation and only within the school walls. We will continue to partner with community resources and families to expand support levels that directly impact our students. The VISTA member’s work will ultimately teach students resilience to handle difficult situations that they may encounter in life. It also provides support and resources as they navigate the school system. We also anticipate family outreach and support, which will also give the greater community the resources required to help eliminate poverty.
