Team UP: Student Support Specialist

Led by the United Way of SWCO, Team UP AmeriCorps places AmeriCorps members at organizations throughout Southwest Colorado to focus on improving the lives of community members, from cradle to career. The San Juan Board of Cooperative Educational Services (SJ BOCES) provides educational services to children and youth in Southwest Colorado. SJ BOCES, in close partnership with local school districts and community-based organizations will deploy a team of AmeriCorps members to provide educational, enrichment and social-emotional support during the summer of 2022. The program goal is to help our students get back on track from the loss of learning and increased mental health needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Student Support Specialists will serve with community-based organizations and/or schools in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata and Montezuma Counties, providing enrichment and academic services to students during summer programs. They will tutor individual or groups of students, and develop and implement enrichment activities designed to improve the outcomes of students who have experienced increased mental health or learning loss due to COVID. This position may also include family engagement activities such as family education on the use of educational technology. United Way values the diversity of our community. In principle and in practice the diverse nature of our board, staff, and volunteers is recognized as one of our best assets. We respect each individual’s unique gifts and prohibit unfair or discriminatory practices against anyone because of age, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, gender, sexual orientation, and any other protected category.
