SHARE Food Network - Nutrition Education Specialist

SHARE Food Network is a social enterprise of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington. In existence for 31 years, SHARE partners with local community organizations to distribute nutritious groceries monthly for approximately half the cost sold in the average grocery store. We can pass these savings onto the community because we purchase in bulk and have the support of hundreds of volunteers committed to food equity and security. Additionally, SHARE Volunteers are also customers who give back and strengthen their communities by exemplifying smart spending practices and prioritizing an enjoyable time with family and friends as they give back and strengthen their communities. Major aspects of the program include: 1) Food Demonstration Videos, developing four food demonstration videos using contents of SHARE Value Package, attainable with SNAP benefits. A minimum of three of the videos are to be completed by Host Site volunteers or customers. SHARE Outreach team will use this project to assist Host Sites engage volunteers for their SHARE program. 2) SNAP Outreach Training to Host Sites, explaining how their promotion and acceptance of SNAP benefits opens access to healthy food and promotes food equity in underserved communities. 3) In-person and virtual-Youth and Senior Health and Nutrition Talks, establishing partnerships with senior housing complexes and elementary schools in underserved communities to facilitate discussions and teach children and older adults, in an engaging and age-appropriate way, about the link between healthy food and good health. 4) Best Food Practices, this will be a section for the monthly newsletter that will provide quick best practices for identifying quality food, maintaining food freshness, getting the most out of healthy food, how to introduce new and healthy foods to your diet etc.
