Mercy College of Health Sciences is the only private Catholic college located in central Iowa. Our mission is to prepare graduates for service and leadership in the healthcare community by integrating its core values with a professional and liberal arts and science education. We are looking for an individual that has an interest in gardening, community development and a passion for working with racial disparities and social justice issues. This project is expected to increase access to healthy and affordable food options by furthering the development of Catherine's Cabinet, our on-campus food pantry. The position will also be expected to develop and strengthen community partnerships, while developing and implementing education based on racial disparities and social justice issues. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***

Member Duties : The full time position will be expected to develop strategies to build sustainability in the area of food insecurity at the College by surveying the campus community administrators to determine strengths and weaknesses of current food pantry program. Use data to design procedures and a structure to meet the food pantry’s needs. This includes writing a procedure manual for sustainable operations and to engage students and community partners in the formulation of Mercy Gardens. Assist in the development of new initiatives that address racial and social justice issues locally, nationally and globally by organizing safe spaces for dialogue, and developing a tool-kit for educating the community on topical issues.
