CCMA VISTA Corporate Partners Initiative

Campus Compact Mid Atlantic (CCMA) is a network of approximately 40 higher education institutions in D.C., Maryland, and Delaware, committed to using community and civic engagement as the vehicle to improve community life in our region. Over the past half dozen years, CCMA has leveraged its member institutions’ commitment and capacity to alleviate poverty in the Mid-Atlantic region, specifically through partnerships to advance equity through the promotion of college, career, and civic readiness and community engagement. Yet, CCMA has not yet forged strong links with the business community as a partner in this effort. CCMA programming, such as the AmeriCorps VISTA project, substantially benefits the business community in the Mid-Atlantic region by increasing student engagement and learning outcomes that lead to higher completion rates, increased career readiness, and the development of patterns of life-long civic and community engagement. To maximize the collective impact of this resource, CCMA realizes that higher education must establish a mutually beneficial relationship with the corporate sector, and engage them in programming to develop the present and future workforce. Bringing diverse stakeholders together in addressing issues will breed creativity and progress. Like the higher education sector, the corporate sector is simultaneously working on improving its culture with regard to diversity, equity, and inclusion. CCMA’s capacity to convene conversations between and among higher education partners and corporate partners regarding justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as sustainability and global citizenship, will be another step toward creating more just communities and developing globally engaged citizens to lead those communities.
