Kitsap Harvest Gleaning Coordinator Summer Associate VISTA
 
 
 
The Kitsap Peninsula is the host region for a 2023 Kitsap Harvest Summer Associate. The Summer Associate will help address food insecurity by working with a network of partnering agencies. Involvement will include direct work with Grow A Row, Gleaning, Pickup, and Distribution of fresh food. Increasing consistency of fresh food deliveries throughout the county, and helping decrease food waste in creative ways. The Harvest VISTA program finds innovative ways to decrease waste of fresh fruits and vegetables and increase the availability of nutritious produce for food bank clients. The Summer Associate (SA) program will work in an intensive level of summer service for 10 weeks.The Summer Associate will serve with Kitsap Harvest over the summer, working outside with changing scenery. Harvest Against Hunger aims to involve the larger community in addressing food insecurity.

Member Duties : The Summer Associate will assist Kitsap Harvest activities such as site checks, leading gleans, identifying and training volunteers to lead gleans. They will assist with community event days when Kitsap Harvest does tabling for education and outreach. They will assist in addressing challenges related coordination of harvesting seasonal urban fruit, like timing of harvest, volunteer engagement, and pickup/ transportation of gleaned produce, and data collection for the evaluation of program efficiency. The Summer Associate will be given opportunities to play to their individual strengths and special interests around the broad topic of Food Systems as approved by the supervisor.
