2021-2022 Housing Retention Coordinator VISTA
 
 
 
The Northern Illinois ReACH (Winnebago County Housing Authority) provides affordable housing for 485 residents. The Winnebago team believes of the 30 residents (daily) in risk of losing housing most can be resolved through the power of information and community resources. Through partnerships with social services agencies, individual donors, and corporate businesses in the areas vulnerable residents will be sustain living quarters in this country’s most critical times when housing is between life and death in some cases. The Housing Retention Services Coordinator VISTA will create and lead projects to collaborate with 20 nonprofit partners in support of the housing retention program, help create much needed workshops, and will facilitate in rebuilding the relationships between vulnerable residents and building managers. The ideal candidate will have the following attributes: A willingness and eagerness to learn, possess a high degree of self-motivation and be a self-starter, have excellent interpersonal skills, have good computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft based programs and is familiar with the Windows environment, have experience in working and collaborating with diverse populations, good oral and written communication skills, and be detailed-oriented with asset-based thinking. The Winnebago team handles critical and sensitive data daily, so trustworthiness is also key. Finally, some housing issues may require creative thinking to come up with viable solutions, so we are seeking someone with the ability to think outside-the-box. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : The Housing Retention Services Coordinator VISTA will work with the ROSS coordinator to learn about over 100 plus critical residents. They will continue the groundwork of learning best practices/resources to aid residents and create workshops to spread preventative measures. This VISTA will also analyze the Winnebago team’s current eviction policies and procedures to assist in organization’s goal to partner with at least 20 nonprofit agencies and social services, related to the housing retention mission, to reduce residents repeating violations. In addition, the VISTA will work with corporate businesses to forge partnerships to support resident workshops and even employment resources. The Housing Retention Services Coordinator VISTA will have access to senior leadership whenever needed but should be able to work independently/strategically. It will take overall persistence and due diligence of the VISTA to bridge the many moving pieces in the Winnebago community spaces.
