2021 Iowa Service Learning Coordinator VISTA
 
 
 
Youth who participate in volunteering and service-learning not only learn valuable skills while giving back to the community, they benefit from prosocial protective factors that improve mental health and social and educational outcomes. Yet youth in Iowa are not equitable provided the opportunity to participate in volunteering and service. Volunteer Iowa is seeking a Service Learning Coordinator VISTA to help break down barriers to service and increase youth volunteering rates in Iowa. Volunteer Iowa is a state agency located just south of the picturesque Gray's Lake park in Des Moines, Iowa's capital city. We offer a supportive team culture that is passionate about the work we do. The VISTA member will have the opportunity to participate in training and professional development, explore career interests by participating in agency activities like grant reviewing, and network with leaders from across the state.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on youth service throughout the state of Iowa, providing youth the pro-social benefits of volunteering while developing tomorrow's civically engaged leaders. The VISTA member will: 1. Assess current service learning and youth engagement programming in Iowa, identify partners engaged in service learning, and conduct a needs assessment to identify resource gaps. 2. Convene and lead a statewide service learning advisory taskforce, and develop an action plan which includes youth voice. 3. Develop resources to support youth in volunteering, create recognition opportunities for youth, and develop social media content to highlight both. 4. Gain experience as part of a fun and dynamic team of community-focused civil servants, committed to improving lives, strengthening communities, and fostering civic engagement through service and volunteering.
