2021-2022 Fair Housing Development VISTA

HOPE Fair Housing Center works to create greater housing opportunities for all and ensure that everyone has the chance to live in the home of their choice free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, familial status, or any other characteristics protected under state or local laws. We have determined that there is a need for a more prominent presence of Fair Housing education, outreach, and services in Southern Illinois. We need assistance in the expansion of another branch of our organization specifically focused on underserved communities in the Southern portion of the state. This Member will build on the previous research and implement outreach strategies to extend to low and mixed-income communities, so all residents have an equal opportunity to find and obtain safe, affordable housing. The Member will continue the development of sustainable, efficient processes to stay connected to and build relationships with residents and organizations in downstate Illinois communities. A great emphasis will also be placed on fundraising efforts and the Member will be required to research and obtain funding in the form of community specific grants, foundational grants, and monetary donations. Candidates must have strong networking, relationship building, writing, researching, and comprehension skills for this position. Experience with grant writing is strongly suggested for this position. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website.
