"The AmeriCorps member serving at University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth will be an integral part of a dynamic plan to incorporate meaningful service as part of the UMass Dartmouth's students' career. Our program will target Pell Grant eligible students who will reap the benefits of service in terms of increased social capital, personal growth, well-being and connection to their future career with the help and guidance of peer mentors. Our Campus Compact AmeriCorps member will share their skills as a leader, communicator, listener, researcher and organizer to develop and implement a successful, sustainable program. Additionally, because UMass Dartmouth is located between the post-industrial urban centers of New Bedford and Fall River, the service provided by these students will help community-based organizations meet the needs of the region. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $641.20 in Bristol county. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide fitness center passes, professional development (conferences),and access to professional development & training opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth will build capacity by developing Project Success; a program that will assist students of low-economic means to incorporate service into their college career as a strategy for successful completion of their college career through connections and opportunities. Through tutoring, mentoring, tax prep, neighborhood beautification, public art in the form of student service to reduce poverty in the post-industrial urban centers of New Bedford and Fall River, the goal of this project is to create a program that will aid Pell eligible students to reap the benefits of increased social capital and connection to their future career while experiencing the satisfaction of helping to make our shared communities stronger through service.
