‘21 VIP - Community Engagement VISTA - SAM

This position is part of the VISTAs in the Piedmont (VIP) program sponsored by United Way of the Piedmont. As an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Spartanburg Academic Movement, you will create and implement social media engagement with partners, as well as develop training opportunities for Out of School Time (OST) Collaborative providers to support continuous improvement and racial equity. You will also enhance youth engagement at SAM by capturing youth voice to help inform SAM initiatives and decision-making by individuals being impacted. In addition, you will strengthen implementation of SAM’s Summer Melt program, an initiative to decrease the number of high school graduates who intend to enroll in college but are at risk of “melting” (or not enrolling) their college freshman year. Students will be matched with volunteer coaches who will help students navigate their transition to college, creating a pathway for upward economic mobility. The VIP program offers a unique approach to VISTA service, as you will spend 10% of your time each week working collaboratively with 19 other VISTA members placed in the community to research and implement community-wide solutions focusing on either increasing access to behavioral healthcare or increasing financial stability. Benefits include: monthly housing stipend, doubled food stamps at the farmer's market, housing referrals, household & personal care supplies provided through the Gifts in Kind Center, ongoing professional development, reimbursement for service-related travel, discounted gym membership, professional mentoring, and more!
