‘21 VIP - Program & Engagement Coordinator VISTA - BBBS

This position is part of the VISTAs in the Piedmont (VIP) program sponsored by United Way of the Piedmont. As an AmeriCorps VISTA at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate, you will help improve young people academically, socially, and emotionally by focusing on education, prevention of high-risk behaviors, and teaching life skills. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will help support this mission by enhancing the existing volunteer recruitment system, enabling the organization to meet mentor recruitment goals and expand community awareness. You will also create a resource guide to increase knowledge of other available community resources for families, specifically resources to increase financial literacy and prevent and treat substance use. You will help to increase efficiency of existing funds, as well as explore ways to raise additional funds with existing resources. The VIP program offers a unique approach to VISTA service, as you will spend 10% of your time each week working collaboratively with 19 other VISTA members placed in the community to research and implement community-wide solutions focusing on either increasing access to behavioral healthcare or increasing financial stability. Member Duties : Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate exists to improve young people academically, socially, and emotionally by focusing on education, prevention of high-risk behaviors and teaching life skills. The VISTA will help support this mission by recruiting volunteers, expanding community awareness, fundraising, and generally helping to increase capacity through quality improvements in order to provide enhanced services for the low-income youth and families served.
